The Wadsworth Square Commons Master Plan is to preserve the past and build the future.
Wadsworth Square Commons is a bold and inspiring vision to reimagine the historic Central Intermediate School campus as a vibrant hub for arts, entertainment, and community life. Led by the Wadsworth Square Foundation—a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization—this multi-year generational project is designed to both preserve the beloved building and breathe new life into downtown Wadsworth.

May 2025
Revitalization District Application Filed
The Wadsworth Square Foundation submits a proposal for the creation of a new Revitalization District. This initiative will allow up to 15 new D-5 liquor licenses for the downtown and Match District areas—fueling growth for restaurants, bars, and nightlife to complement the area’s cultural offerings.
Summer 2025
Construction Ramps Up
Redevelopment work begins and accelerates with multiple crews working in phases across multiple projects, mainly focusing on the first part of the project: renovation of the school’s theater. The renovation will include new carpet, paint, décor, renovation of the atrium area, and around $300,000 in sound and lighting upgrades.
December 2025
O.J. Work Auditorium Reopens as Celestia Theater
At the heart of the transformation, the Celestia Theater receives a $1.5M restoration and reopens as a 900-seat, first-class performance venue. Revitalized with state-of-the-art acoustics, lighting, seating, and sound systems, the space will host concerts, dance shows, theater productions, and special events year-round.
Early 2026
Flame Backstage Grille & Bar Opens
Connected to the theater, Flame Backstage Grille & Bar launches as a pre-show dining destination. It shares space with a renovated atrium and event center—designed to host trade shows, local markets, and community gatherings, enhancing the cultural and commercial life of downtown Wadsworth.
2026
Housing and Office Space Unveiled
Modern studio theater suites and professional office suites are announced, and leases are offered for occupancy.
By 2027
Phased Openings Continue
With public support and multiple phases of construction unfolding through 2027, Wadsworth Square emerges as a fully activated district—blending arts, housing, business, and recreation.
Ongoing
A Hometown Vision Realized
Continuing phases of renovation and restoration to the Celestia Theater and massive enhancements to the campus continue, including parking, park space, common areas. The work never ends to improve and maintain the Jewel of the City so please consider become a Founding Member and support Wadsworth’s evolution.
