FAQ
Local investors Bob Thurber and Todd Baughman are transforming the former Central School. The vision is to preserve this historic landmark and create a mixed-use campus featuring restored performance and community spaces, offices, a café, and theater suites.
Built in 1907, the school has deep roots in Wadsworth’s story. With the school district relocating, this preservation-minded plan ensures the building remains a lively part of downtown, supporting economic growth and public use.
The team offered $300,000 in cash to acquire the property—valued at an estimated $3.7 million—without seeking tax relief, keeping contributions steady for both the school district and the city.
Three bids were received in December 2024. The Wadsworth Square Commons bid was selected in January 2025 because it aligned with the district’s community-led 2017 committee goals and offered the strongest potential for downtown revitalization.
• A revived historic theater hosting concerts, performances, festivals, classes, and arts programs.
• A welcoming campus with café, office space, and local support services.
• New housing and theater-related lodging to boost downtown foot traffic and spending.
The public can support the Wadsworth Square Foundation revitalization by becoming a Founding Member or volunteering, and businesses can do the same by being a Corporate Partner.
