Carpenters – The SONGS. The STORIES. featuring Helen Welch

May 17, 2026 - 4PM

An original, fresh perspective of songs and stories that finally captures the true quality and essence of the Carpenters. Helen Welch  celebrates the songs of the brother sister duo including rare and fascinating back stage stories about one of the biggest selling groups of the 1970’s.

In 1969 the Carpenters made their first album called “Offerings.” It was a flop, and so was their first single “Ticket To Ride,” which was a ballad version of the Beatles song. In 1970 the Carpenters made their second album called “Close To You.” The album was a hit, and the two singles “Close To You” and “We’ve Only Just Begun” made the Carpenters superstars. This earned them 2 Grammy Awards and made them millionaires. The Carpenters were ridiculed, because they didn’t fit into the rock-and-roll, drug scene during the early 70s. Their music was very much loved by people of all ages, with hit after hit up until Karen’s death in 1983.
